A volunteer fireman must choose between facing his demons, or fleeing to the comfort of a new life as an attorney, while a monstrous wildfire threatens to consume his hometown.
MATT CANNON, 36, is a life-saver. He saved lives as a U.S. Army Ranger medic, when he was on the LAFD, and as a volunteer firefighter in his tiny California hometown of Grey Hawk. But he couldn't save his own mom when a horrific wildfire ravaged that same country village.
Now he's moved on--leaving his police officer girlfriend ESMERALDA (32) behind (though "sparks" of romance still linger)--and is working as an attorney for a big-city environmental law firm that seeks to mitigate wildfire danger in all of California.
But when a corrupt developer (GLADSTONE) tries to murder Matt's fire chief dad (WINSTON, 60's) in order to get his project built in "Fire Canyon," the most vulnerable and dangerous part of Grey Hawk, and the place where his mom lost her life, Matt is faced with his toughest choice: keep running from his guilt, or return to battle Gladstone and the newest colossal wildfire that is headed directly toward town.
Writer/Director Garrett Clancy from The Guardian
Matt is a life-saver. Army Ranger medic, LAFD, and volunteer fire captain. Fearless. Poster boy for first-responder hero. And smart. Really smart. Matt is a life-saver. Army Ranger medic, LAFD, and volunteer fire captain. Fearless. Poster boy for first-responder hero. And smart. Really smart. Did law school at night while saving lives and putting out fires. Works for an environmental law firm -- but you can't take the life-saver out of the man. It's always there. He can't run from it, though he tries in order to bury the guilt he feels about not being able to save the life of his own mother...
Matt's bad-ass dad. Current Chief of the Grey Hawk Volunteer F.D. Also head of the town council. Brave and principled, but with an ornery side. Patient, but not afraid to mix it up with a bad dog. Loves his sons, but maybe asks too much of them at times.
A spunky cop in tiny Grey Hawk, and Matt's "ex." Still plenty of sparks between them, though she has her own dreams which didn't quite line up with Matt's desire to make the move to big-city lawyer. She's no-nonsense, but loyal, smart and kind.
Matt's tortured younger brother, still wracked with grief, anger and blame for his mom's death. Wallows in self-destructive behavior, including heavy drinking. Also on the volunteer fire department. Lyndon feels inferior to Matt, and therefore resents his older bro for that.
A corrupt and greedy developer, who wants what he wants, no matter who gets hurt. Will even resort to murder to get those in his way, out of his way. But he has about half of Grey Hawk supporting his newest construction project, dangerous and reckless as it is, as it will bring jobs and money to a struggling town.
A thug that goes by one (very appropriate) name. He's Gladstone's "pit bull" enforcer. An ex-soldier/ex-con who likes to hurt people.
Ambitious, energetic, and caring. The consummate first-responder. A born leader. Her "day job" is as waitress at town's lone restaurant. She's going places.
Grey Hawk's police chief. Not like anybody else wanted the job. Wishy-washy. Likes to remain 'Switzerland" in town disputes. But deep down has the ability to change for the better.
Super-smart, well-heeled lawyer. A perfect match for Matt, in theory; but depends on the path he commits to. Right now, it's up in the air, though they def dig each other.
